It has been a manic couple of months and there are no signs of things slowing down. Its been an incredible journey and a great experience meeting and doing business with some of Newcastle’s finest event venues. The idea for Venyou came about quite a few years ago and it was one of them ideas that just won’t leave you, so I quit my job and started planning. The difficulty in the first instance was firstly getting a great portfolio of event venues in Newcastle to believe in the idea of a venue finding agency in Newcastle as without venues I had no business. Due to the amount of new event spaces in the city, it was most certainly needed and im glad the venues were on the same wave length!
One thing that was important to me was to get a really good mix of venues, venues that would cater for private parties, corporate events, weddings, kid’s parties right through to exhibitions and conferences. I believe we have done this now, however we are still on the lookout for new, unique venues and event spaces in Newcastle. The difficulty now will be trying to balance this with dealing with the daily event and venue enquiries that we are receiving.
Im still not 100% happy with the site, i know this will be a long process and we will be making various changes over time which will benefit both our partner venues and users of the site. All the systems and processes are now in place, our CRM has been customised for our business and we decided to use Zoho . All of the accountancy software is in place, after alot of deliberation we decided to use a great tool called Free Agent. Social Media management is in place with good old Hootsuite , a great project management tool i stumbled across called Trello. So now my life is consumed by SAAS products and various apps.
After so many meetings with Web Developers, Banks, Venue Managers, Partners & Suppliers I am now ready to get down to work. We will be investing quite heavily in online marketing across social media, seo, ppc and online pr to ensure that the event enquiries come through via the online platform. I am also a firm believer in good old cold calling and introducing Venyou to key corporates in the Newcastle and the surrounding areas. Being pro-active on a daily basis is key to the success of any business and I will ensure that we have good structure and a carefully planned strategy moving forward.
I envision the future in a very positive light, although things are extremely difficult in the start-up stages of any business. I am trying to create a brand people recognise and love, a business with good values and gives something back. To me starting this business wasn’t all about money and financial freedom, I am trying to add value to all of my partner venues and every business or individual that looks for an event space with Venyou. Creating something new and adding value to a market place is what is important to me right now.
I will also be launching the North Easts first event industry networking event (full info coming soon) so that venues, event suppliers and key corporate bookers in the city can meet each other in a relaxed and informal environment. Plans are also in motion for the North East Venue and Event Expo in 2017.
So, its all going on. Things are going great and I am looking forward to the next steps in my start up business.
